Doodle 1024 – Mini Mugg

Doodle 1024 - Mini Mugg

We made a run to the store tonight and I found these cute new Iron Man Mini Muggs.  I have a bunch of the regular sized Mighty Muggs and always wanted the Comic Con Iron Man version, so these are perfect.  4 minute doodle tonight with a little time to spare.

Note the digital friendly doodle number for Mr. Stark…

Doodle 1021 – Super Fort

Doodle 1021 - Super Fort

The boys and I broke out our Cranium Super Fort today and built a crazy contraption in their room.  Rolled a 3 today, so this was about all the time I had to draw.

Doodle 1018 – Failed LEGO Mechanism

Doodle 1018 - Failed LEGO Mechanism

Being obsessive, I was yet again trying to figure out a better LEGO mechanism for a rubber band gun, and came up with this monstrous 20:1 reduction.  The only issue is that the rubber bands couldn’t provide enough torque to advance the mechanism reliably.  Someday I’ll find the magic combination of gears to have something simple and elegant enough to stop fiddling(or not).

Doodle 1015 - LEGO Brick Gun

There was a post on today from the slingshot youTube channel of a pencil launching slingshot.  I decided to see if I could make something with a similar top loading magazine, and ended up with this.

Here’s a little pirate ship that our oldest built for his LEGO Plankton.  I’ve been meaning to post it forever.

Doodle 1009 – Bucket Head Iron Man

Doodle 1009 - Bucket Head Iron Man

I got this idea to draw some of my favorite bucket headed characters from comics, so I had to start with Iron Man.  Here’s hoping the Avenger’s movie this summer is amazing!  (Captain America’s helmet looks dumb.)

Drawn in Inkscape, textured in Gimp.

LEGO Rubberband gun v2.0

For some reason I’ve been playing around with our LEGO Technics quite a bit lately and built a bunch of different rubberband guns over the past few days.  The one above was a good attempt, but them I started getting a little crazy with gear reduction.

Doodle 982 - LEGO Dino

Today the boys and I saw some pictures of the new LEGO Dino sets that are going to be out soon.  As if it wasn’t bad enough that my boys want to own all the alien invasion sets, now they’re in love with the Dino sets too.  Thanks LEGO, I’ll just start signing my paycheck over to you.  Seriously though, all the sets look really cool, and I’d be lying if I didn’t foresee a LEGO Dinosaur decorating my desk in the near future.

Doodle 972 - LEGO Boxer

Today our youngest son and I stayed over at my sister’s house before meeting up with his mother and brother in Massachusetts.  We headed into the nearest town to hit up a Toys-R-Us and scored a few of the LEGO mini-figure collectibles.  We were lucky enough to get a boxer in our batch, which completed his uncle’s set of series 4.

Duplo Beast

Tonight my youngest and I were home by ourselves, his mom and brother are visiting friends in Massachusetts and we’ll drive up to meet them in a few days.  We ended up playing with the DUPLO blocks and made a few funny creatures.  This goofy one was my favorite.

doodle 940 - buggy messages

The buggy we built yesterday was employed all night tonight by our young one, delivering notes from the hall way.  A couple of times it made it’s way under the bed, and I had to help retrieve it while pretending not to see the note.

Doodle 939 – LEGO Buggy

doodle 939 - LEGO buggy

After work today I busted out the LEGO Technics and built a little motorized buggy with my younger son.  He demanded that we incorporated all the powered parts I had so it was even equipped with lights.  Lets see how long it survives.

doodle 930 - lego monster

Today Dave and I took our oldest son to the mall to visit the video, books, and LEGO stores.  We got two of the new series 5 LEGO figures and ended up with a Dinosaur guy, which instantly reminded me of one of my favorite lines from an Austin Powers movie.

Japanese Man 1: RUN! IT’S GODZILLA!
Japanese Man 2: It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws – it’s not.
Japanese Man 2: Though it isn’t.
[Japanese Man 2 Winks at Camera; both scream and run away]

Doodle 842 – Sticky iPad

doodle 842 - sticky iPad

Part of the class I’m in is that they give us an iPad to use for the 3 weeks to make all the material more portable.  At first I was worried that I would fall in love with the thing, which is generally against my distaste for all things Apple.  Other then the hardware, I’m not impressed.  I really wanted to try out the free AutoDesk apps for drawing, but I refuse to give them a credit card for free software.

doodle 840 - LEGO labor

My sister and her husband came down for a visit this weekend, and we all ended up working on this gnarly looking castle (I’ll add pictures later).  My main addition was a roof top arbor, complete with a forced labor wine press thing that spins in the middle.  LEGO would likely not be pleased…
