Doodle 938 – Real Steel

doodle 938 - real steel

So after the last few days of hearing the Real Steel commercials during some of the kids shows, I had an evening with a little free time, and I thought I’d go and see the movie.  Well, those commercials were lacking the normal narrated “In theaters Oct 7th” at the end so I incorrectly assumed it was released.  Guess I have to wait a few more weeks.

Doodle 676 - TRON Legacy

This afternoon I finally got a chance to go see TRON Legacy.  My wife was out of town last week for a wedding, so I couldn’t go see it opening night as I had planned.  That. Movie. Was. Awesome.  and I wore my TRON hoodie of course…

Doodle 482 - Jack and the Beanstalk

Tonight for our Friday night movie we rented the new Jack and the Beanstalk movie from Redbox.  It was a little weird and the acting wasn’t the greatest, but it was definitely an odd mix of period and current things.  Worth a dollar I suppose.

Doodle 456 - Movie GUI

Some time ago I built a Tcl/Tk GUI for our boy’s computer so they can play movies off the old server.  Well, after a severe drive failure I got a new server about a year ago but I changed how the movies were organized in the folders which made that GUI defunct.  Today I finally got around to recoding it to work with the new server and nested folders, as well as spiff it up a little bit.

Basically (nerd hat on), it indexes the folders that contains our family movies, writes the movies to an array, and then dynamically builds the GUI based on a predefined number of rows and columns.  Once it runs out of space for movies, it sets up the Next and Back buttons to “page” through the rest of the movies.  The kids just find one they want, click on the picture, then it launches the movie in full screen and exits.

Doodle 447 - Iron Man 2

Today I went to see Iron Man 2 in IMAX, which was completely awesome!  Just as good as the first one in my humble opinion.  The wife and I were supposed to go together while the kids where in school, but our youngest stayed home sick and I had to go by myself.  Still a great movie…

Doodle 432 - PF Changs

Today thanks to some magic alignment of planets or something, I took the day off from work, the wife didn’t have any classes, and the boys were both in school.  Date Day!!!  We did a little window shopping at the mall (yawn), ate at PF Changs for lunch(pricey but good), and saw Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey(super funny).

Doodle 350 - Paper Heart

Tonight the boys were both exhausted from lots of sledding and walking, so the wife and I had a chance to watch a movie.  We ended up watching Paper Heart with Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera.  It was simple and a cute movie.

Doodle 215 - 9 Without 3D

I guess I always assumed that 9 would be in 3D since it’s from the same studio that did Coraline.  I’m heading out tonight after the boys go to bed to see it, bummer it’s only in 2D though…

Doodle 173 - G.I.Joe

The boys watched the old G.I.Joe movie twice today, which has resulted in them randomly attacking each other from across the room while screaming “Cobra!”  I still have doubts about whether the new movie will be any good or not.  I’ll probably wait until DVD unless there’s reliable word of mouth.
